Enrique Thompson

Enrique Thompson is an Argentine-Italian saxophonist, EWI performer, composer, improvisational artist, and producer. Starting to play the saxophone at the age of 10 in his hometown in Argentina, he has performed and led various musical groups on 5 continents, including orchestras, chamber music, jazz, blues, rock, Latin American music, tango, saxophone quartet, African music, electronic, and experimental genres.

He has also interpreted and composed music for short and medium-length films, plays, and multidisciplinary projects in Latin America and Europe.

He has studied classical saxophone at the La Plata Conservatory, as well as composition at the National University of La Plata (Argentina). He has taken courses in popular music, jazz, and improvisation, and received private lessons from renowned national and international musicians such as Michael Brecker (USA), Bob Mintzer (USA), Carlos “Mono” Fontana (Argentina), Paquito D’Rivera (Cuba/USA), Chad Lefkowitz-Brown (USA), Eric Alexander (USA), Carlos Michelini (Argentina), Carlos Lastra (Argentina), Anibal Arias (Argentina), among others.

Convinced that art and life are part of the same entity, he has complemented his studies with various activities that have influenced and expanded his artistic creations, such as philosophy, psychology, languages, history, and politics. Currently, he lives between Fuerteventura, Canary Islands, and Vienna, Austria. He plays and composes for Revirado Project, Tango meets Jazz, Traspié Electro Tango, TM Group, and founded the agency Enrique Thompson Music, which provides musical groups for events in the Canary Islands combining private and public funding. He also acts as a guest and sideman with different musical groups throughout Europe and was invited by saxophonist Paquito D’Rivera to perform at the closing of the Punta del Este International Jazz Fest.

Among other activities, he founded the EcoJazz Festival – Music and Ecology – in Fuerteventura in 2022, the Jazz Route, combining culture, tourism, and concert spaces in 2023, co-founded the organization Altruism Verein in Vienna, an association promoting and supporting artistic and cultural production, the association Casa Naturaleza Betancuria – Music, Art, and Ecology – as well as the label ARTRUISM RECORDS in Vienna, Austria (2012).
