Enrique Thompson – Saxophonist, Composer & Producer
Born in the Argentine countryside, Enrique Thompson is a saxophonist, composer, and producer whose music bridges jazz, tango, and global influences. His early exposure to classical music, Argentine folk traditions, Latin American sounds, and artists like The Beatles and Joan Manuel Serrat shaped his eclectic musical identity.
At 10, he began playing the saxophone, and by 12, he was immersed in classical training at the conservatory. However, his passion led him to jazz and improvisation, pushing him toward a broader musical journey. At 14, he experienced his first jam session with professional musicians—a defining moment that set him on his lifelong path. Later, he pursued contemporary composition at university while refining his saxophone and improvisation skills under the guidance of top teachers and jazz legends like Bob Mintzer, Michael Brecker, and Paquito D’Rivera—many of whom he met at the Punta del Este International Jazz Festival around the year 2000.
For Enrique, music is an intellectual, emotional, and physical challenge—a discipline that engages the mind, heart, and body. It has remained his lifelong pursuit, his home, and his constant.
In 2010, he moved to Vienna, Austria, where he spent his first years in Europe, learning German and immersing himself in the European music scene. Since then, he has recorded and released 10 albums, always infusing his work with the deep roots of his Argentine heritage, distinguishing his jazz approach from others.
In 2012, he co-founded Traspié (electro-tango) and Revirado Project (tango-jazz fusion), blending Argentine traditions with modern composition and improvisation. He has also collaborated on countless projects with musicians from around the world. To support independent artists, he co-founded Artruism Records and the cultural association Artruism Verein.
In 2017, Enrique relocated to Berlin, but after a year, an invitation brought him to the Canary Islands, where he has been active since 2019 while continuing to perform across Europe. With approximately 200 concerts per year, he has also created two music festivals in Fuerteventura: EcoJazz (focused on music and environmental awareness) and La Ruta del Jazz, now entering their 4th and 3rd editions in 2025, respectively.
Notable performances include concerts at the French Senate in Paris, multiple appearances at the Punta del Este International Jazz Festival, and the Canary Islands International Jazz Festival (2021, 2023). Along the way, he has met nearly all his musical idols and collaborated with a vast network of international musicians.
With six albums released under Revirado Project—including both studio and live recordings—plus four additional albums from other projects and over 30 albums as a sideman since 1997, Enrique’s artistic journey continues to evolve. His latest work consistently surpasses his previous releases, ensuring that his best material is always the one yet to come.
